(a) Program Review of Cultural Grants

To be introduced by Julie Bevan, Manager, Culture and Events.

Purpose:  To highlight issues related to the City’s current grant funding programs through Culture & Events, and to seek endorsement from Council for Staff to undertake a program review including research on best practices and dialogue with stakeholders.

Recommendation:  That the Governance and Priorities Committee direct Council to endorse a review of the three grant funding programs administered by Culture & Events (Culture & Heritage Operating Grants, Culture & Heritage Project Grants, and Downtown Event Revitalization Grants), including research on best practices and dialogue with community stakeholders, and return with recommendations to improve and evolve processes to continue to meet the needs of the Nanaimo cultural community.

(a) Update on RFP No. 2489 Call for Artists for Permanent Art at Maffeo Sutton Park

Purpose:  To provide an update on the outcome of ‘Request for Proposals No. 2489 Call for Artists, Supply and Oversee Installation of Artwork of Maffeo Sutton Park’ issued in October 2019.

(b) Art in Public Spaces Working Group

To be introduced by Julie Bevan, Manager, Culture and Events.

Purpose:  To highlight issues related to the City’s current public art program, and to recommend that the Committee endorse the creation of an Art in Public Spaces Working Group to provide advice to Staff and Council related to art in public spaces.

Recommendation:  That the Governance Priority Committee direct Council to endorse the creation of an Art in Public Spaces Working Group to be facilitated by Culture & Events Staff.
