Minutes of the Open Meeting of the Community Vitality Committee held in the Board Room, Service &  Resource Centre, 411 Dunsmuir Street, Nanaimo, BC , on Wednesday, 2018-FEB-07 at 4:30 pm.

Purpose: To provide an update on meeting procedures.

Recommendation:  That the Meeting Procedures presentation be received as presented.

A status update on this with specific focus on City-owned facilities.

On 2018-APR-28, the City of Nanaimo will host an Affordable Housing Strategy Expo from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church (4235 Departure Bay Road).  The family-friendly event will feature information about the current housing situation in Nanaimo and ask residents for input on how to create more affordable housing in our community.

On 2018-MAY-19, the City of Nanaimo and Multicultural Society will host the annual Immigrant Welcome Reception from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at the Vancouver Island Conference Centre - Newcastle Island Lobby (101 Gordon Street).

On 2018-FEB-19, Council approved a $9,579.41 Heritage Façade Grant to replace the roof and repair the masonry chimneys of the Harris House located at 375 Franklyn Street.

On 2018-JAN-15, Council approved the 2018 Culture & Heritage Award recipients as follows:

  • Mr. Rick Scott, Excellence in Culture
  • Mr. William Good, Honour in Culture
  • Ms. Jan Peterson, Honour in Heritage

On 2018-FEB-19, Council approved the 2018 Lifetime Achievement Award recipient as follows:

  • Ms. Audrey Alexandra Brown

All recipients will be honoured at a special ceremony at the Port Theatre on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at 6:30 pm.

On 2018-FEB-21, the 2018 Heritage Summit was held with several culture and heritage organizations in attendance to hear the feature presentation and share their recent accomplishments/upcoming projects.

On 2018-FEB-26, Council approved the Community Vitality Committee's 2018 Strategic Directions.

On 2018-MAR-05, Council approved the 2018 Downtown Event Grant recommendations of $150,000.
