Minutes of the Open Meeting of the Community Vitality Committee held in the Board Room, Service and Resource Centre, 411 Dunsmuir Street, Nanaimo, BC, on Wednesday, 2018-JAN-03 at 4:30 pm.

Affordable Housing Strategy Update

Purpose: To provide an update on the Affordable Housing Strategy.

Recommendation: That the Affordable Housing Strategy Update presentation be received as presented.

NEW BUSINESS:

a.

2018 Strategic Directions

Purpose: To review the Community Vitality Committee's draft 2018 Strategic Directions.

Recommendation: That the Community Vitality Committee endorse the 2018 Strategic Directions.

2018 Culture & Heritage Grants Approved by Council

For information. On 2018-JAN-15, Council approved the 2018 Culture & Heritage Grants in the amount of $330,052.

b.

2018 Social Planning Grants Approved by Council

For information. On 2017-DEC-18, Council approved the 2018 Social Planning Grants in the amount of $85,000.

c.

2018 Temporary Outdoor Public Art Approved by Council

For information. On 2018-JAN-15, Council approved eleven pieces of temporary outdoor public art for 2018.

d.

2018 Culture & Heritage Awards

For information. On 2018-JAN-15, Council approved the 2018 Culture & Heritage Award recipients.  The award ceremony will be held on Thursday, April 6, 2018 at 6:30 pm at the Port Theatre.

e.

Shower Facilities for the Homeless Approved by Council

For information.  On 2018-JAN-22, Council approved the use of Caledonia Parks sports field shower facility for homeless persons, providing interim funding of $10,000 for three months.

f.

2018 Living History Speaker Series

For information. The 2018 Living History Speaker Series will be held on March 8, 15, 22 and 29 at 6:30 pm at the Wellington Community Hall.

g.

2018 Heritage Summit

For information.  The 2018 Heritage Summit will be held on Wednesday, 2018-FEB-21 at 7:00 pm at the Nanaimo Museum.
