Minutes of the Finance and Audit Committee Meeting held in the Shaw Auditorium, Vancouver Island Conference Centre, 80 Commercial Street, Nanaimo, BC, on Wednesday, 2022-MAY-18, at 9:00 a.m.

Purpose:  To obtain Council approval for the Permissive Tax Exemption application received from Makerspace Nanaimo Association for the property that it leases at 2221A McGarrigle Road.


Recommendation:  That the Finance and Audit Committee recommend that Council:

  • Award a Permissive Tax exemption commencing with the 2023 taxation year to the Makerspace Nanaimo Association

To be introduced by Richard Harding, General Manager, Parks, Recreation and Culture.


Purpose:  To inform Council of the cancellation of a 2022 project at the Nanaimo Search and Rescue Operations Centre.

Purpose:  To present Council with the option to purchase the artwork Seabed, by Peter Achurch, and add the work to Nanaimo’s Public Art Inventory.


Recommendation:  That the Finance and Audit Committee recommend that Council approve the use of existing City funds to purchase the artwork Seabed, 2020, by artist Peter Achurch, and the addition of the artwork to the Public Art Inventory in 2022.

Purpose:  To obtain Council’s approval for additional funding for the Lenhart Bridge project.


Recommendation:  That the Finance and Audit Committee recommend that Council direct Staff to increase the budget for the Lenhart Bridge project by $188,000.
